Southern Missouri Telehealth Genetics Services: Final Report
From WikiAdvocacy
The Southern Missouri Telehealth Genetics Service’s (SMTGS) distribution of family health history booklets compares to other health education initiatives in the community in method. In most communities in southern Missouri, health information is obtained in several traditional ways. This includes the family physician, county health departments and federally funded health clinics that add this information to patients’ medical records. Health information may also be distributed at health fairs and public venues by means of written literature. The last, and most conventional, method of delivering health information is word of mouth. This is traditionally done through parents and grandparents who are the primary caretakers of children. This information may or may not be recorded in a permanent fashion.
There were 11,500 of each booklet printed or a total of 23,000. Approximately half of the booklets have been distributed. Booklets were distributed with partner groups, at health fairs and at genealogy societies. Southern Missouri was divided up into regions and all southern Missourians were targeted. SMTGS tried to be as diverse as possible in choosing different groups to partner with to distribute booklets. The following is a list of booklet distributions:
